The Thursday Art Walk is a program organized as collaboration with neighborhood artists and arts enthusiasts by the The Arts Commission's Live Work Create Toledo initiative, embracing economic development and revitalization through the arts. In August 2007, an "Arts Zone" was identified as a geographic point of focus because of the many existing galleries and art studios in the neighborhood. The Art Walk program began that same year to highlight, promote, and elevate existing arts studios, galleries, and supporting local businesses in the area. The Art Walk program has grown significantly in a short time, with the first Art Walk in May 2007 featuring just a few venues and an attendance of about 50 guests to regularly featuring nearly 30 venues with an attendance of several hundred guests, and growing to include live street performers, street vendors, and musicians each month throughout the programs 5th season.
