ALMA DRUM & DANCE AT TOLEDO MUSEUM OF ART
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 29th, 3PM ~ FREE CONCERT & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
ALMA Drum & Dance will present a new program of traditional West African Drum & Dance in the Peristyle Theater at the Toledo Museum of Art, as part or the museum's holiday programming, "The Great Art Escape".
Come see ALMA showcase their style of traditional West African drum & dance on one of the premiere stages in Toledo. ALMA members will be joined onstage by drummer from “CircAfrique”, of West Lafayette, Indiana, who specialize in the traditional "village" style drumming of West African rhythms.
This ALMA performance is scheduled to take place Saturday, December 29th, 2012, at 3pm.
This ALMA performance is free, and open to the public. Excellent family entertainment, and brought to the community, free of charge, courtesy of the Toledo Museum of Art.
ALMA Drum & Dance is the only professional West African Drum & Dance ensemble in the Toledo area, and we are proud to have internationally acclaimed musician and artist, Yaya Kabo, originally from Casamance, Senegal, serving as the ALMA Artistic Director since 2007.
ALMA exists to celebrate dance and music, to bring dance and music to everyone, and to capitalize on the talents each individual artist brings to the group, to the stage and to the classroom. ALMA is committed to artistic excellence through continuous study, performance, and sharing of our art forms. ALMA is also dedicated to collaboration; working with other artists to build a larger dance and music community.
On a continuing mission to expose our community to the joyful exuberance of traditional West African Drum and Dance, and all its healthful benefits!
