Sylvanus Pierson "SP” Jermain will forever be known for his "unbeaten soul" and his tireless service to the City of Toledo. He devoted his life to providing the citizens of Toledo with places to enjoy the outdoors and recreation. His greatest source of pride was the establishment of parks at Riverside, Walbridge, Collins, Bay View, and Ottawa Park. He also was a big supporter of the game of golf and is hugely important in the development of many golf courses in the area including Ottawa Park and the Inverness.

In 1928 a sculpture was created to remember the life and unending passion of SP Jermain.  On Saturday, May 29th 2010 the iconic and much beloved sculpture returned to the Ottawa Park Golf Course.  It was the culmination of an effort that began four years prior, when the original bronze sculpture went missing, and was never returned or found. The historic piece, newly re-sculpted to the exact dimensions, by noted sculptor, Brian Maughan, of Yellow Springs, OH now sits behind the club house near the first tee.
