Live Work Create Toledo is an Arts Commission initiative to attract the creative talents and energy of artists to revitalize our Downtown and its surrounding neighborhoods. The program will facilitate the development of incentives to leverage the creative talent of individual artists and our cultural assets to spur economic growth, build community prosperity, and transform our central city neighborhoods.
Working with real estate agents, businesses, artists, arts organizations, and homeowners in communities, The Arts Commission seeks to attract artists and concentrate our existing artist population to become permanent residents and business owners in our central city. The Arts Commission is currently working on programs to increase professional development opportunities for artists, establish artist live-work spaces, and to continue to attract creatives into the Downtown area and its surrounding neighborhoods. With an emphasis on the cultural assets that Toledo already supports, our community will be competitive with other cities and programs across the country in attracting and retaining artists who are critical to the development of a creative economy in our region.
Live Work Create Toledo also oversees the Arts Zone established in 2007 in Downtown Toledo, spanning from the shore of the Maumee River, through the Warehouse District, and into Downtown. The Arts Zone acts as a central district to promote the arts, arts-related events, organizations and businesses, and artist live-work spaces.
Part of the Live Work Create Toledo program mission is foster and elevate the local arts scene. Some current Arts Commission programs fall under its umbrella in this regard. These programs include Artomatic 419!, the Art Walk series, the Gallery Loop series, and SoundTrek.
