Momentum Inter/Active Art Installations

INTER/ACTIVE | 2024 Momentum Festival

The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo’s Art in Public Places Program is commissioning two new interactive, community-driven, collaborative works of art that are accessible to the public and civic in scope, to be placed in key locations at this year’s Momentum Festival, taking place Friday September 20th through Sunday September 22nd, 2024.

A Design Review Board (DRB) has selected two proposals for interactive art installations to be installed and activated as key features of Momentum Festival:

Forest of Arden Annex_Toledo  | Gerard Nadeau

“The Forest of Arden Annex_Toledo proposes a temporary, participatory woven construction project comprising a lattice shell structure, built and elaborated by participants as the embodiment of community. Anyone who can master the fundamental over-under-over instructions for weaving the wood components will be able to participate in the project.

In the first phase, simple curvilinear patterns or figures on the ground establish the basic 3D geometry of the Annex, which ’finds itself’ as participants weave upwards with minimum direction from the project facilitators. During the second phase, participants line the structural shell with woven designs of their own invention in a sensual, unified aesthetic.”

Made in the Moment  | Daniel Cascardo

“The intent of the project is to engage and inspire as many people as possible in the creation of this unique interactive storage container mural.  People will be prompted to paint the black and white image with a selection of colorful paint markers.  They will work side by side interacting with one another while adding their mark to the mural.

The interactive features of this project are designed to be accessible to viewers of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.”
