Brood X Film Showcase 2024

The 2024 Brood X Film Showcase will serve as an anthem to local and regional indie cinematic storytellers. This year, by widening its submission base to all of Ohio and Michigan, Brood X has doubled its submissions, attracting even more talented regional filmmakers to Toledo for this annual showcase celebrating the hellbent spirits of all independent filmmakers. Hosted by Matthew Deimling Johns, the showcase will feature jury selected short films and an exclusive panel discussion. On the panel will be LA based actress, producer, and director Alexandra Barreto (All American, The Fosters, Late Bloomers), and festival coordinator of Hell’s Half Mile in Bay City, MI - producer, director, and writer Alan Lafave (Skippers). There will also be a couple surprise screenings and personal appearances.

About Brood X
What the frick is Brood X? Our namesake, Brood X is the brood of periodical cicadas that emerged in 2021 having spent the previous 17 years underground! Like these cicadas, your ideas and your stories have been growing and developing out of sight, waiting patiently to burst from the depths - to be seen, to be heard. Like the song of the cicada, the thunderous buzz that resonates with all those who grew up in the midwest; this event will bring a warm nostalgia for summer nights, while creating new memories of unharnessed expression and storytelling in the process.
